Well today I thought I would try a little some different on my blog. That I would touch on several technology issues and coming and goings for the week.
1. The biggest news in Canada is that they are going to change the copyright act to come into the digital age. The copyright act in Canada is so far out of date that it is not funny. I can see why they are doing this.
2. Google and Yahoo have struck an add deal. As a result Microsoft now states that they do not want to buy all of Yahoo and they had only wanted to buy Yahoo if it was quick. Is months of negotiating quick?
3. My space has decided to do a face lift on their site. The reality is that Facebook just did one and they are trying to compete.
4. The new 3G I Phone is out and the I Phone is now coming to Canada soon. That is good news because I want one!!!!!

Well Microsoft has let it knowen they are still after Yahoo. Why is this happening people ask. As a company Microsoft places a lot of money behind their desktop operating system, their network server operating system and their office package. They have other offerings like exchange and sms to name a few but the others are their staple.
One thing that has Microsoft in trouble lately is that they have increased corporate licensing for all their products. As a result many corporations are now looking for alternatives. It a lot of case licensing fees have doubled. Getting greedy will cost Microsoft in the long run.
The other reality is Microsoft has many mature products. XP Pro/Office/Exchange are all very stable products. So is Server 2008 with it’s new Virtulization technology. With mature packages why would people upgrade.
The 3rd reality is all of this would never have happened with Bill Gates in charge. Steve Ballmer is a little more progressive in his thinking and open to moving ahead more.
The 4th reason is Microsoft let Goggle get far ahead of them to be the number one portal on the net. So now they must do something about it.

In the last week, Microsoft has come out and said they will make their takeover of Yahoo a hostile one if need be. Yahoo is a sitting duck - it is just a matter of time. The question is who and when not if.
The reality is the Yahoo board needs to get as much money for the takeover for it’s shareholders. Yahoo as a Internet portal is no longer an inovator and has long been surpassed by Google in that department.
Their has been talk of AOL or even Google taking over Yahoo. The Google rumour I do not seem happening because I can see Anti-trust issues all over again. The AOL rumour just hope does not not happen because AOL has a habbit of running things(see Netscape/ICQ etc).
This all said Microsoft is the only likely winner in this battle.

Well Yahoo did the expected and rejected Microsoft’s hostile takeover bid today. Personally I think it is an effort to drive share prices up and get a higher return on investment for their share holders.
Before it is out someone will buy Yahoo. At one time they used to be an innovator. That is no longer the case. Personally I do not use any Yahoo services anymore but that is due to security concerns. I had a bad experience.
That all said Microsoft has the resources to resurrect Yahoo and make it a leader one more time.

In reality this attempted hostile takeover had to happen. Let’s look at the facts. Microsoft is one rich company. That said this will be the first time in their history that Microsoft will have to borrow money to finance the buyout. Should we be concerned - not really.
Yahoo has been struggling for years. Overpowered by Google. The reality is the only company that can challenge Goggle at this point in time is Microsoft. No one else in the market place has the resources.
Microsoft has talked for years about making the Internet an extension of the desktop. They are already working on that with their new Windows Live technology. This would just take things up another notch.
Will the buyout happen - in time I think it will. Microsoft is as much of an innovator in the marketplace and the competion will be good for both companies.
